Morrison Park is the largest unimproved park in Hood River and was acquired by the city on March 20, 1931 via a purchase from Charles Batchelder. It features native trees, flowers, a stream, rock features and abundant wildlife.
The best-known entry to the park is at the intersection of Wasco Ave. and 20th Streets (Jaymar, north of Wasco). In the past it has also been known as Auto Park and Jaymar Park.
Morrison Disc Golf Course was created in 2005 when Hood River Parks and Rec made an agreement to use the park and provide recreation opportunities in a unique way. There are groves of native oak trees, picnic tables and rock outcroppings from which views of the Columbia River can be enjoyed.
On March 11, 2019 the City Council change the interpretation of Goal 8 Section 1: Recreational Use of the Comprehensive Plan, deciding that housing is compatible with recreational use of a park. An Ordinance has been adopted, approving the rezone of the park from Open Space/ Public Facility to (OS/PF) to Urban High-Density Residential (R-3).
This change in the interpretation of the Comprehensive Plan allows ANY Park to be rezoned and developed.
